Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea Shows Support To Women Over New Abortion Law In Texas
Flea, the bass guitarist of Red Hot Chill Peppers shared a post on Instagram and showed his support for women’s rights after the abortion law in Texas has changed.
As you may know, there has been an uprising in Texas about the abortion law recently because the state issued a bill to ban abortions after six weeks into a pregnancy. Twitter users trended a hashtag that state ‘Texas Deserves Better’ to show that six weeks is too early to be making that decision. The law went into effect in Texas on September 1, and it became the most strict abortion law in the United States.
The reason why six weeks grabbed a lot of attention and opposition is that most women do not even notice that they are pregnant in six weeks. The opposing people are the advocates of women’s rights, and according to them, reducing the pregnancy time for an abortion is the same as banning the procedure completely which disregards women’s choice on reproduction.
Flea was one of the people who supported women’s rights and shared a fleet from Twitter on his Instagram. In the tweets, there were the stories of women who were forced into situations of unwanted pregnancies which were tragic or life-ending. In the stories, the women didn’t notice their pregnancy symptoms until a minimum of seven and a maximum of twenty-one weeks. These stories pointed out how ridiculous six weeks law is.
Flea shared the post and stated in the caption:
“I support women having their own choice about their bodies and their lives.”
While many people admired Flea for supporting women’s freedom, there were still people who threatened to unfollow the bassist because of his ‘opinion.’ In the comments, there were arguments about how the ‘babies’ should have the right to live. However, the law disregards many criminal acts such as rape and incest, forcing women to give birth even if they were pushed into unwanted relationships.
