Primus’ Les Claypool recently joined an interview with Guitar World and revealed that Geddy Lee’s bass style is one of his all-time favorites.

The band is about to complete its 40th year in the music scene. Coming from a metal background, the band’s music has a tune that oscillates between different genres and musical influences, including King Crimson, Pink Floyd, and the Residents. Besides, Rush is also one of the band’s major influences, and Les Claypool has often expressed his admiration for Geddy Lee and Rush.

The band was not only inspired by Rush but also played their songs and praised them on stage many times. Their last project involving Rush was a tour where they would play Rush’s 1977 album ‘A Farewell to Kings’ in its entirety every night. However, as we all know, the pandemic put a halt on all social events, and like many exciting tours, this one also had to be postponed. They were finally able to hit the stage for ‘Tribute To Kings’ in August 2021 and have extended the well-received tour to 2022 and are still on the road.

As their Rush tour continues, frontman Les Claypool participated in an interview with Guitar World and once again expressed his admiration for Geddy Lee. He revealed that Rush’s 1976 release, ‘All The World’s A Stage,’ deeply impressed him, although he was young, and even inspired him to play bass. He described Geddy Lee’s guitar style as melodic and praised his vocals. Recalling when he inducted Rush into the Canadian Hall of Fame, the frontman also remembered that they played ‘Spirit Of Radio’ together and how difficult it was.

Here is what Les Claypool said about Rush and Geddy Lee:

“For me, when I was a kid, ‘All The World’s A Stage’ was an incredible discovery. It was really the album that launched me into the world of playing bass. Geddy is a very melodic player, and the way he phrases things is incredible. I actually inducted Rush into the Canadian Hall of Fame, and we played ‘Spirit Of Radio’ – and that sh*t is hard, man!”

Primus is currently on their way to South America for their ‘Tribute To Kings’ tour. They have two upcoming concerts in Chile, and their next stop will be in Mexico. Many Rush fans appreciate Primus’ attempt to keep Rush’s legacy alive, and it is known that they have also been encouraged by the remaining Rush members.
