A tragic incident occurred outside Hampton Coliseum during a Phish concert, resulting in one death and two injuries. The band reported this on Instagram.

The band released an official statement addressing the violent altercation that took place in the venue’s parking lot.

“During last night’s show, a tragic incident took place in the parking lot outside Hampton Coliseum,” the band said. “There was an altercation behind one of the tents in the unofficial vending area in which someone lost their life and two other people were injured.”

The statement continued to express the band’s limited knowledge of the situation. It also conveyed their sympathy.

“We don’t have more information than what has been reported by the police, who called it an isolated incident, but what we do know is upsetting enough,” they continued. “We are deeply saddened by this and our hearts go out to all of those affected.”

Local authorities have provided additional details about the incident that unfolded during the concert.

WTVR reported that police described the event as an argument between several people around 9:30 p.m. The argument escalated into a large, violent altercation. The man who was stabbed died after being taken to a hospital. Two others sustained injuries that were non-life-threatening.

Hampton police are currently questioning a person of interest in connection with the stabbing. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to piece together the exact circumstances that led to the fatal confrontation in the unofficial vending area.

The Phish concert series has continued with heightened security measures despite the tragic incident. WTKR noted that vendors and fans have expressed continued support for the concert series. Some longtime vendors described this as an unprecedented event in their decades of attendance.

The stabbing has not deterred attendance or vendor participation during the following days of the Phish shows. There is a noticeable heightened police presence near the venue. The incident serves as a rare disruption to what is typically considered a peaceful gathering of music fans in the Hampton area.
