Phil Collen Addresses The Rivalry Between Mötley Crüe And Def Leppard
During an interview with Ralph Sutton and James Mattern, Def Leppard co-lead guitarist Phil Collen shared his ideas on the upcoming tour of Def Leppard and Mötley Crüe and revealed that if there was a rivalry or tension between two bands.
Def Leppard, Mötley Crüe, Poison, and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts were supposed to start their tour in 2021. However, the tour of legends was rescheduled to 2022 due to COVID-19 restrictions. Their longtime fans became very excited to watch them all together. The tour will start on June 16, 2022, in Atlanta and will end on September 7, 2022, in San Francisco.
In a recent interview, the host asked Collen about the existence of a rivalry or feud between two bands in the past while Phil shared his excitement about their upcoming tour with Mötley Crüe. Collen clarified the situation saying that they were getting along very well and hanging out a lot. Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx also stated that he loved Def Leppard and there was no such thing as a rivalry in one of his previous interviews.
Phil Collen answered the question about the tension between Def Leppard and Mötley Crüe by saying that they always loved and appreciated each other’s works and enjoyed playing together during the tours. Collen expressed his excitement about the upcoming tour with Mötley Crüe, Poison, and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts which will start in 2022.
Collen said in the interview that:
“I’m really excited about this thing that we’re doing with Mötley Crüe. The fact that they came back after the tour. All of the original members will be there which is a big deal. Poison will be there with all original members and it’s pretty much original Joan Jett too. I think that is almost like a festival on tour. I’m really excited about that. I was excited when it was first announced. You know it was just a pause button.”
The host asked about the rivalry saying:
“When both of you were the biggest bands in the world was there a tension or rivalry or every loved each other in the 80s?”
“I remember playing with Mötley Crüe and going on stage with them in Paris. We were actually hanging out and having a blast.“
