Jeff Fabb of Black Label Society recently spoke with BODS Mayhem Hour about the reformed Pantera lineup, praising their performance and sound.

Fabb shared his enthusiasm for the band, which includes his Black Label Society bandmate Zakk Wylde on guitar, alongside original members Phil Anselmo on vocals and Rex Brown on bass, with Anthrax’s Charlie Benante filling in on drums. The musician stated:

“Those guys sound great. I just went and saw [the Pantera concert at] Madison Square Garden [in New York City], and, man, they just sound killer. Everybody’s crushing it. Phil sounds great. Yeah, man, it’s awesome. And it’s a nice tribute to the [Abbott] brothers. The crowd seems to be loving it, which makes it amazing. That place, Madison Square Garden, was packed.”

He also reflected on the overwhelming response from the crowd, saying:

“[Support act] Lamb of God was killer. And just to look around, I was looking around the Garden. I was, like, ‘Look at all these metalheads, man. This is amazing.’ Everybody was just loving it and stoked to be there. And it was cool too, ’cause Phil was, like, ‘Be honest. Anyone who this is their first Pantera show, raise your hand.’ And a lot of people raised their hand because a lot of people didn’t get to see Pantera, so I think it’s cool for those people.”

Potential New Music From Pantera

The world tour marks Pantera’s first major outing in 22 years, with a lineup that sees Wylde and  Benante stepping in for the Abbott brothers. While the focus remains on celebrating Pantera’s catalog, Wylde previously hinted at the possibility of new music, though he insists that any new material would likely bear a different name out of respect for the band’s original members. He stated:

“I guess that would be a bridge we’d cross when we get there. But we’re so busy doing this right now, we’ve never even thought about it.”

The reformed Pantera is not only headlining major festivals across North America, South America, and Europe but also preparing to support Metallica on their massive stadium tour in 2024.
