In a new interview with Heavy, Pantera’s current guitarist Zakk Wylde shared the plans for possible new Pantera music. While discussing playing the parts Dimebag Darrell wrote years ago, the rocker mentioned the new music, stating it was out of the question for now. He said:

“I guess that would be a bridge we’d cross when we get there. But we’re so busy doing this right now, we’ve never even thought about it.”

Wylde Has One Condition For New Music

Though Wylde and the rest of the band did not have time to ‘even think about it,’ the guitarist is not completely against the idea of creating and releasing new music. In an earlier interview, Wylde ensured that he would love to make new music but under one condition. He revealed:

“Yeah, of course. I mean, how could you call it Pantera unless it was just pre-existing material and we were gonna record it — stuff that was in demo state or whatever, and it is songs that the guys wrote. But as far as new songs, it would have to be — you’d call it something else.”

Benante’s Thoughts On New Music

Similar to Wylde’s thoughts on new music, Charlie Benante had reservations about producing new albums under the Pantera name due to his concerns about fan expectations. Benante was also mindful of the anticipation surrounding potential new music from Pantera. However, as he mentioned in a 2022 interview, Benante is concerned that some Pantera fans might not be ready to embrace new albums without Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul:

“Creatively, if we are just flowing and getting going, and things are starting to be really good, musically speaking, you never know what could happen. I’ve got tons of riffs. But we’re putting the cart before the horse. I like the positivity there, but I don’t know how people would react to that either at this point. I think first, let’s get out there and establish that we can play. I’m always open to the future.”
