Joy Division and New Order bassist Peter Hook was recently interviewed by Absolute Radio.

Hook, in the interview, was told how some of their songs helped the fans through rough times. He revealed getting afraid to meet Neil Young for feeling the same way towards him. He described:

“You know what? When I meet artists that have done the same to me, you know I have the same feeling. We were on a train going to Festival Fuji in Japan, and Barney [Bernard Sumner] came running into me and he said ‘Okay,’ he said ‘Come here, Neil Young’s in the next carriage, let’s go and say hello.’ I went ‘Neil… Neil Young…’ It’s like that, I mean Neil Young must have been with me when I’ve been at my lowest. And to get the opportunity to meet him I just said no and locked myself in the toilet.”

In an earlier interview, the bassist, once again, made his admiration clear. He told:

“Nowadays, with the music talent shows, it’s all about what other people think of you. I side with great artists like Neil Young on this- you don’t pander to people. Neil Young has an audience because they like him, not because he likes them. So he does what he wants to do. He tells the what he’s like.”

Hook also mentioned Young’s ‘Old Ways’ as ‘the album he could listen to again and again‘.
