Former New Order bassist Peter Hook voiced his critical views about his former band in a recent interview with iNews.

“I don’t think they’re New Order,” Hook stated. “They don’t sound like anything like them.”

“I’ve watched them play songs [online] recently, and they’ve dropped the basslines and play it like some weird, bad cover version of a New Order track,” he continued. “So the animosity is obviously still there now.”

The tension between Hook and his former bandmates has persisted since his departure from New Order in 2007.

His latest criticism further extends the long-standing dispute between Hook and the current New Order lineup.

Historical records revealed that personal disputes and creative differences marked Hook’s departure from New Order. His exit left a significant void in the band’s signature sound, particularly in their distinctive bass arrangements.

Riverfront Times documented the band’s continued performances without Hook’s iconic bass playing. Fans and critics consider his playing style an integral part of New Order’s musical identity.

The Mancunion highlighted Hook’s response to this situation. He now performs New Order and Joy Division songs with his band, Peter Hook & The Light. His goal remains preserving what he considers the authentic sound of these classics.

Far Out Magazine noted Hook’s dedication to the original material. He continues his mission to perform every track he helped write, despite ongoing legal and personal conflicts with his former bandmates.
