Three months after Jane’s Addiction’s reunion tour ended suddenly due to an onstage fight, the band seems to be back in the studio without singer Perry Farrell.
Eric Avery posted a video from a recent recording session. He was seen adding bass to Stephen Perkins’ drumming. He wrote in the caption: “Writing some more new lines to some of Stephens drumming. Look forward to getting some Mr [Dave] Navarro on them. 2025!,” Perkins also shared the video on his own Instagram.
This isn’t the first time the trio has tried making music without Perry Farrell after a Jane’s Addiction breakup. After the band’s first split in 1991, Navarro and Avery worked on a project called Deconstruction, but Perkins couldn’t join due to the record label’s concerns about confusion with Farrell’s band, Porno for Pyros.
Deconstruction released one self-titled album in 1994 before Navarro moved on to join Red Hot Chili Peppers. Recently, Navarro has been posting on Instagram about the Deconstruction album that has just been re-released on streaming services.
The incident happened towards the end of Jane’s Addiction’s performance during ‘Ocean Size’ in a September show. Farrell seemed drunk or high and was mumbling lyrics. He bumped into Navarro, got in his face, and swore at him. Navarro seemed confused and asked what was going on. Navarro then stopped playing and put his hand on Farrell’s chest. Farrell appeared to throw a punch at Navarro before being held back by a roadie and bassist Eric Avery. Avery and the crew managed to get Farrell offstage.
However, the band’s tech, Dan Cleary, later confirmed that Farrell punched Navarro once again backstage.
Now, it’s unclear if Navarro, Perkins, and Avery working together again means the start of Deconstruction 2.0 or a completely new project. When Jane’s Addiction split suddenly in September, the band had been working on new music, including a new single that was released at a bad time, titled ‘True Love.’
