Paul Weller recently talked about his favorite gigs and albums of this year, and he picked the Sex Pistols with Frank Carter’s show at the 100 Club as one of the best ones yet. He shared his opinions in an interview with Mojo4Music.
When asked about his favorite gigs of the year, Paul Weller mentioned Stevie Wonder’s performance at Hyde Park, along with Kneecap at Wembley.
He then said, “But best of all… the Sex Pistols with Frank Carter at the 100 Club. It brought back loads of memories, of seeing the Pistols there in ’76.”
He continued, “They played brilliantly, and Frank Carter just brought it all to life. I’m really not sure if they’d have done that with Johnny. And Steve Jones, man – only Steve Jones sounds like that. He is the punk rock guitarist.”
Ultimate Classic Rock reported that The Sex Pistols have returned with a refreshed lineup featuring Frank Carter — known for his work with Gallows and Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes — stepping in as lead vocalist in place of original frontman John Lydon. The reformed group, which includes original members Steve Jones, Paul Cook, and Glen Matlock, has announced several concerts and tours celebrating the band’s legacy, with Carter fronting shows in the U.K. and abroad.
John Lydon has made it clear he will never rejoin the Sex Pistols, strongly criticizing the current reunion. Lydon has described the band’s comeback with Carter as “karaoke” and rejected any possibility of reconciling after legal disputes and ongoing disagreements, stating he believes he is the Pistols, and the current lineup is not.
