Paris Jackson posted a video on Instagram to celebrate 5 years of sobriety.
“Hi, I’m pk and I’m an alcoholic and a heroin addict,” the singer wrote in the caption. “Today marks 5 years clean & sober from all drugs and alcohol. To say that I’m thankful would be a poor euphemism. Gratitude hardly scratches the surface.”
She added, “It’s because I’m sober that I get to smile today. I get to make music. I get to experience the joy of loving my dogs and cat. I get to feel heartbreak in all it’s glory. I get to grieve. I get to laugh. I get to dance. I get to trust.”
“I feel the sun on my skin and it’s warm. I’ve found that life keeps happening regardless of whether I’m sober or not, but today I get to show up for it. Here’s a little snapshot of what has been possible because of my sobriety, and my god I can’t believe I almost missed it all. Thanks. 1/7/20,” Jackson concluded her post.
The video shows Paris over the years. It starts with scenes of her drinking and smoking. It then switches to her sober life, where she dances, makes music, spends time with her dogs, and kisses her fiancé, Justin ‘Blue’ Long.
Jackson has openly discussed her mental health struggles, including suicide attempts, self-harm, and body image issues. In the 2020 series ‘Unfiltered: Paris Jackson and Gabriel Glenn,’ she shared that she started self-harming after gaining weight following her father’s death in 2009, via USA Today.
She said, “It was also a distraction from emotional pain and transferring it to physical pain. And a need for control. Even though the lows are unbearably low, I would still rather [feel] that than nothing. Pain is way better than numb because at least you’re feeling something.”
In December 2024, Jackson confirmed that her boyfriend, Justin ‘Blue’ Long, had proposed.
