Paramore’s Hayley Williams Shares Her Opinion On Billie Eilish’s New Song ‘Your Power’

Paramore’s founder, frontwoman, and songwriter, Hayley Williams, recently posted a tweet on her Twitter account and expressed her appreciation of Billie Eilish’s latest release while praising her for having the courage to speak up about ‘the grooming that takes place every day,’ especially in the music industry.

As you know, Hayley Williams is one of the most famous and influential lead vocalists of the 21st century. She has inspired millions of young people to listen to rock music. She’s also a very active user of social media and she often uses her Twitter account to announce her new projects, express her views on various matters, discuss music and artists, and of course, interact with her fans.

In the past year, she has been mainly focusing on her solo career and her debut album ‘Petals for Armor‘ which is considered to be an indie record, was released on May 8, 2020, and it achieved critical acclaim and was awarded the ‘Best Alternative’ MTV EMA. Her second record ‘FLOWERS for VASES / descanos‘ was released on February 5, and it was also highly appreciated by both fans and critics.

Since she’s more active in the indie scene right now, Hayley enjoys expressing her views on new tracks by indie artists and in her recent tweet she expressed her thoughts about Billie Eilish’s new song ‘Your Power.’ It was released just a couple of days ago and it has already reached almost 18 million views. The song touches on a very sensitive but crucial matter; child grooming.

The lyrics of the song tell the story of a young girl being held ‘in a cage’ by an older man who abuses his power over her. In the lyrics, the subject also seems to be a victim of the abuser as she says ‘I thought that I was special / You made me feel / Like it was my fault, you were the devil.’ Hayley Williams applauded Eilish for having the courage to speak about ‘the grooming’ which is prevalent everywhere but especially ‘within creative industries’ and exclaimed that she wishes she had heard this song when she was 19.

Here’s what Hayley Williams said in her recent tweet:

I wish I’d heard Billie’s newest song when I was 19. A powerful message for a young and brilliantly talented young person to sing about the grooming that takes place every day especially within creative industries and she speaks on it with grace. Anyway, the song rules.”

This is what a fan commented:

“Can’t imagine all the fucked up shit that you two have been through. I love to see you supporting each other.”

And another fan said:

There needs to be more talking about the grooming young girls deal with in the music industry, it’s so rampant and disgusting I hope the future generation of young girls and women have a better life than previous generations have.”
