Being a metal dad doesn’t mean you can’t take your kids to see the pop musicians they love.
Pantera and Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante shared a detailed review of the show on his Instagram account. “An early Christmas gift for my daughter. I surprised her with tix to the last Billie Eilish show of the year at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles.”
The only thing he complained about was the number of phones: “We had a blast- I just wish these screenagers would put down their phones for some of the show. It’s fine to film a bit of a song here and there- but the entire show? Be in the moment a bit. I have to comment on the sound, whew! It was crisp, punchy and plenty of low end. The mix was killer. I love that.”
While this was only a gift for his daughters, some rockers do actually love the pop singer. Michael Stipe, Johnny Marr, and Dave Grohl are only a few of them.
“It’s interesting with Billie. Like all people who are great, I think she and [brother, collaborator] Finneas could have existed at any time – so I’ll have to disagree with you there. But her form, her process, her influences, and her sound are extremely modern. That’s why she’s so relatable, particularly to young people, for both boys and girls,” Marr said of working with Eilish. Stipe said in 2019, “I listen to ambient music a lot. I like Nils Frahm. I like Billie Eilish. I like some pop music but only in cars that are taking me places that’s less than 15 minutes. I really like Sia.”
While many of Billie Eilish’s songs are often regarded as outside the typical genre, her track ‘Happier Than Ever’ has received praise from the rock and roll community and is now considered part of the genre.
