Ozzy Osbourne’s son Jack Osbourne recently discussed the upcoming Ozzy biopic and addressed his father’s previous casting preference. He shared details in an interview on Howie Mandel Does Stuff.
The conversation touched on the casting process for the highly anticipated film about the legendary rock star. When asked directly about who would be playing Ozzy in the theatrical release, Jack provided insight into the current status while maintaining secrecy around the final decision.
“I can’t say. I can’t. I’ll get in trouble cuz you know, Hollywood. And it’s not official official, but we have, you know, we have our number one pick,” Jack said.
He then addressed his father’s well-known preference for a particular A-list actor to portray him on screen.
“Unfortunately, it is not Denzel Washington. I don’t know if you ever saw that clip where my dad got interviewed and they’re like, ‘Who do you want to play you?’ He’s like, ‘I like Denzel Washington.’ He’s good actor,” Jack continued.
The biopic project has been in development for several years, with significant progress made recently. Metal Insider reported that a director is now attached to the project. The script is currently undergoing another rewrite after six years of development.
The film centers on Ozzy as the former Black Sabbath singer, reality TV star, and head of the Osbourne family. Movie Insider noted that the project has been in development with Sony Pictures and Polygram Entertainment since 2021. The script was written by Lee Hall, who previously worked on the Elton John biopic “Rocketman.”
Jack Osbourne revealed that they have selected what he describes as a “phenomenal, phenomenal actor” for the lead role. Blabbermouth confirmed that the family is now in “full steam in the next phase of development with this movie.”
The production team includes Sharon, Jack, and Aimée Osbourne serving as producers through Osbourne Media. Despite the progress made, casting decisions remain confidential as the project moves forward through Hollywood’s development process.
While Ozzy’s preference for Denzel Washington won’t come to fruition, the family appears confident in their chosen actor to bring the rock legend’s story to the big screen.
