Ozzy Osbourne Names The Top 3 Guitarists Of The Planet

Ozzy Osbourne recently spoke to Metal Hammer about inviting Jimmy Page to collaborate on his new album, which resulted in a disappointment for him. While talking about the Led Zeppelin guitarist, the Prince of Darkness also named the three guitarists he believes are ‘the greatest on the planet.’

On February 21, 2020, Ozzy Osbourne released his first solo record in around ten years, titled ‘Ordinary Man.’ This album received positive reviews from fans and critics and debuted at number 3 on the UK Albums Chart. After the release, Osbourne excited his fans with a follow-up album with ‘Ordinary Man’s main producer Andrew Watt.

In November 2021, it turned out that Zakk Wylde would also join Osbourne in this project. Titled ‘Patient Number 9,’ the follow-up album is set to drop on September 9, 2022. In ‘Ordinary Man,’ Ozzy Osbourne worked with Chad Smith and Duff McKagan, and he was planning to collaborate with Jimmy Page on his upcoming album.

Speaking to the Talk Is Jericho podcast in April, Chad Smith revealed details about the album ‘Patient Number 9.’ Smith stated that Ozzy had a chance to work with Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck on several songs from the album. Still, he couldn’t reach out to Jimmy Page to get the ‘holy trinity’ together.

Recently, Ozzy Osbourne joined Metal Hammer and talked about offering Page to play on his new record. Osbourne said he didn’t know whether Page plays anymore but thought it would be great to work with Clapton, Beck, and Page. He then remained optimistic, saying he probably couldn’t contact Page because he might have lost his phone.

Ozzy Osbourne told Metal Hammer the following about offering Jimmy Page to collaborate:

“I don’t even know if he plays anymore, but I thought getting Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and Jimmy Page meant having the greatest guitarists on the planet. But I never heard from him. Maybe he’d lost his phone or something!

Apart from Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, and Zakk Wylde, Metallica’s Robert Trujillo, Mike McCready, Josh Homme, Chad Smith, and Tony Iommi will appear in Ozzy’s upcoming album. As it seems like ‘Patient Number 9’ will be full of guest appearances, but fans won’t have a chance to listen to Jimmy Page’s iconic riffs in any of its songs.
