One Republic recently shared a statement about the ongoing attacks on Israel.
It has been six days since the war between Israel and Gaza started. On October 7, Hamas launched an unprecedented attack against Israel. Militants entered Israel from different points near the Gaza Strip, killing hundreds of people and taking dozens of people hostage. Founded by Palestinian members of the Muslim Brotherhood in December 1987, during the First Intifada, Hamas was the first major wave of uprisings against Israeli occupation.
Many artists and musicians have been sharing their disappointments about the war, with One Republic recently included. The band wrote in their statement:
“The terror unfolding over the last few days in Israel has left us crushed and heartbroken. The magnitude of such devastation and senselessness is comprehensible. The mind isn’t equipped to process this kind of evil. The things being done are horrific.
They are sickening and savage, and they are being celebrated. Let’s be perfectly clear: this is terrorism. We, as a band, could never condone what was done to those innocent people. Our hearts are with the victims and the countless lives shattered by this nightmare.”
The band deactivated the comments section of the statement post.
During the attacks, a former member of a hardcore band went missing, where he was working as a security guard for the Nature Party music festival. The festival occurred near Kibbutz Re’im, just a few miles from the Gaza Strip.
Names like Regina Spektor, U2, and Filter spoke up about the situation, most stating that violence cannot solve conflicts.
