Nita Strauss Explains How To Write An Alice Cooper Song

In a recent interview with Music Radar, Alice Cooper’s guitarist Nita Strauss answered a few questions, including questions about songwriting. One of the questions included whether Strauss changed her playing style while working with different vocalists. The guitarist replied by mentioning the rules she follows while playing with Alice Cooper. She said:

“You want to always make whoever you are working with feel like they are being heard and ‘catered to’ might not necessarily be the right word but, for example, writing a song for someone like Alice Cooper, I am not going to write him something in a very high key, or a very low register, or something too fast where he would have to say syllables very, very fast.”

She then explained briefly how she decided on the style she wanted to play in. She said:

“You want to be conscious of, ‘This is what Alice does, what works the best for him?’ And then craft it around his unique vocal style.”

The talented guitarist collaborated with various other artists, resulting in her having to adapt her playing style accordingly. Among these artists was Demi Lovato, whom she worked with as a stage guitarist for a year.

The guitarist is currently working with Cooper again and has revealed that Lovato and Cooper are collaborating on a new song, although she herself did not contribute to it.

Strauss announced her return on Instagram, sharing that she will join Cooper on his upcoming tours. See the post and the dates here.
