Mötley Crüe’s Nikki Sixx recently gave a rare update on the mysterious project he has been developing with Cinderella’s Fred Coury. He shared new details about the collaboration this week in a post on Facebook.
The update centers on a recent visit between the two longtime friends. During the visit, their conversation turned to the music they are writing for a series of animated projects Sixx is developing.
“My good buddy and ridiculously talented Fred Coury came out to visit me here in Phoenix,” Sixx said. “A little dinner, a lot of laughs, and somehow we ended up talking about all the music we’re writing for a few animated series I’m developing.”
“Apparently we don’t know how to just have dinner,” he continued. “Been friends forever… and still creating trouble together.”
Coury has previously spoken about the collaboration. He confirmed that the project also involves director Rob Minkoff, known for his work on The Lion King.
“Well, I am working on a project that we are doing. I can say because it is public knowledge,” Coury said. “So, Nikki, me, and Rob Minkoff, who directed The Lion King, are working on something we’ve been doing for the last four years. And so that’s going well.”
No further details about the animated series have been released. Additional information is expected to follow as the project develops.
The collaboration between Sixx, Coury, and Minkoff is not a sudden development. It has been years in the making. Both musicians have offered glimpses into its scope over recent months.
Sixx addressed the venture more broadly this past June. He explained that his creative focus in recent years has extended well beyond music. “These last few years I’ve been developing a lot of TV programming and animation (family entertainment),” Sixx said. “We have some amazing partners involved on multiple levels. Really exciting.”
Coury has echoed that timeline. He confirmed that the project is not a new band venture, but a television-focused effort that has been in the works for roughly four years and remains ongoing.
Sixx has now confirmed that music for “a few animated series” is actively being written. The partnership appears to be entering a more concrete phase after years of quiet development.
