Mötley Crüe’s Nikki Sixx talked about how his family found their way to America in an emotional message to celebrate the 4th of July. He shared the post on his official Facebook page.
The post touched on his family’s Sicilian roots, the values he was raised with, and his gratitude toward the country that gave his family a new beginning.
“My grandparents immigrated here from Sicily in search of a better life,” Sixx said. “My father was the first person in our family to speak English, and he was born in San Jose, California, where I was born too.”
Sixx went on to reflect on the work ethic instilled in him growing up and his hopes for future generations.
“I was raised in a hardworking family that believed nothing was handed to you—you earned it,” he continued. “Those values have been passed down to my children, and I hope they’ll carry them forward for generations to come.”
He closed the message with a note of gratitude and a mention of his 4th of July plans.
“America gave my family an opportunity,” Sixx said. “Our gratitude, hard work, and determination were our way of giving something back. Happy 4th of July. Gonna be celebrate tonight playing a cool festival.”
The post offered a rare personal window into the roots that shaped one of rock’s most recognizable figures. It is a story that stretches back to a small Sicilian town and carries through to the stages he still performs on today.
Sixx was born Frank Carlton Serafino Feranna Jr. on December 11, 1958, in San Jose, California. His Italian heritage traces specifically to Calascibetta, a town in Sicily, on his father’s side. That is the same lineage his grandparents carried with them when they made the journey to America.
His early years in San Jose were far from easy. Sixx was partially raised by his single mother, Deana Richards. That instability made the values passed down through his father’s side all the more significant to him. His father was a hardworking man who instilled in Sixx the belief that nothing is given, only earned. That lesson became a defining thread running through his life, from his early struggles to his rise as a founding member of Mötley Crüe.
Today, Sixx is a father of five children — Gunner, Storm, Decker, Frankie, and Ruby. The values he credits to his family’s immigrant story are ones he intends to pass on to the next generation, just as they were passed on to him.
