Nikki Sixx Says A Scumbag Author Is Making Money Off Mötley Crüe’s Legacy

Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx posted a recent tweet in which he targeted an author claiming he is a scumbag who is making money off the band’s legacy.

Throughout their musical career, Mötley Crüe has released nine albums and embarked on numerous tours. Considering their hedonistic lifestyle and rock and roll attitude, the band members have had several exciting experiences, which have now become great stories.

To cover the time from the band’s formation to their rise to fame, Mötley Crüe members and NY Times writer Neil Strauss collaborated to write the autography ‘The Dirt.’ The book was first published in 2001, but its film adaptation premiered in 2019.

Apart from ‘The Dirt,’ there was also another autobiography reflecting the band’s highs and lows, their success, and struggles. Titled ‘Kickstart My Heart: A Mötley Crüe Day-By-Day,’ the book was written by Martin Popoff and released on January 10, 2015.

Although ‘Kickstart My Heart’ received positive reviews for its portrayal of the band’s career, it turned out that Mötley Crüe didn’t endorse or support this book. In his recent tweet, Nikki Sixx touched upon this issue and claimed Popoff makes money off of their legacy.

Following that, one of his followers commented that Popoff is actually a good author who supports the rock and metal music community. Upon seeing that, Nikki Sixx posted another tweet saying the author is a criminal and a scumbag who makes money off their name without the Crüe’s permission.

Nikki Sixx’s tweet about ‘Kickstart My Heart’ read:

“The band does not endorse or support this book. Another person making money off our legacy.”

One of his followers responded to this tweet as:

“Sorry you feel that way, but Martin is very good at what he does and has supported Hard Rock/Metal for pretty much his entire adult life. If you want to squash the book, you probably can, I guess.”

Nikki Sixx then tweeted again:

“If you don’t have permission from the band and are making money off of their name your a criminal. Better said scumbag. Just another leach in Hollywood.”
