Neal Schon’s plans for his new mysterious project, Journey Beyond, have become clearer as new details emerge about the Journey co-founder’s future music endeavors. The Ultimate Classic Rock provided the report.
The report reveals Schon’s expanded trademark application provides insight into his ambitious plans for the new group. These plans include live performances and merchandise.
“Neal Schon’s plans for a new group called Journey Beyond are becoming more clear,” The Ultimate Classic Rock reported. “New details have emerged as his application for protection of the band’s name moves forward with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. His initial filing only stated that the Journey Beyond mark was intended to cover sound recordings and video releases.”
The trademark filings show Schon’s intentions extend beyond recordings to include touring and extensive merchandising opportunities.
“Other official documents now confirm that he hopes to take Journey Beyond out on the road,” the report continued. “There would be lots of merch, too.”
“Trademark office filings also now reflect Schon’s plans to print Journey Beyond on ‘shirts, sweatshirts, hats and socks,'” the publication noted. “The application was later amended to state that ‘all of the foregoing related to a musical band.'”
These developments come as Journey’s future remains uncertain following their ongoing Final Frontier Tour.
The Journey Beyond project represents Schon’s latest venture as he explores new musical directions. He maintains his connection to the Journey legacy. The Ultimate Classic Rock revealed that the trademark application has been updated to specifically include “live performances by a musical group.” It also clarifies releases as “featuring music,” indicating a more comprehensive entertainment venture.
Schon first introduced the concept by posting an image with the words “Journey Beyond” on his social media platforms. He used it as a hashtag, though he has remained deliberately vague about specific details in subsequent interviews. The Ultimate Classic Rock reported that Schon has been evasive when pressed for concrete information about the project’s timeline and scope.
The guitarist’s cryptic approach to the project became evident during a recent interview with Rolling Stone. When asked if Journey might evolve into Journey Beyond—particularly after pre-tour appearances with drummer Deen Castronovo, bassist Todd Jensen, and keyboardist Jason Derlatka—Schon offered a characteristically non-committal response.
“Well, who knows? Nothing is set in stone right now until I actually get there,” Schon told Rolling Stone. He maintained the air of mystery surrounding his future plans.
The timing of these trademark developments suggests Schon is positioning himself for multiple scenarios as Journey’s current tour cycle progresses. DRG News indicated that the expanded trademark protection shows Schon has much bigger plans for Journey Beyond than initially revealed. This potentially sets the stage for a significant new chapter in his musical career.
