Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott has revealed the band’s strategy for releasing new music. He shared details about upcoming tracks and album plans in an interview with Breakfast with Paul Anthony.
Elliott outlined the band’s approach to releasing songs from their upcoming album. He explained their timeline and distribution strategy.
“We’re working through a new album right now, which won’t be out next year, but we may – and probably will – release a new song in time for Vegas and then release another one again for the British tour,” Elliott said. “That’s the plan that we have right now, so there’s an exclusive for you!”
The singer elaborated on their long-term release strategy for the project.
“So, we’re gonna kind of drip feed songs from the album and then it’ll come out late ’26, early ’27 maybe. Hopefully. So, it gives us a great opportunity to do that,” he continued.
Elliott also addressed the band’s evolved perspective on performing unreleased material live.
“There was a point maybe in the last 20 years where people wouldn’t play new music (live) before an album came out because it would be on YouTube. I think, we’re like over that. You know what, if you hear it before it comes out and it’s all over YouTube then whatever. We don’t mind. But we’ll probably actually release the song that we’re going to play anyway so you will have the real version available,” he explained.
The band plans to debut new material during their upcoming Vegas residency and British tour dates.
Elliott’s comments provide insight into the band’s current creative process and their substantial progress on the new project. Def Leppard UK reported that the band currently has around 17 or 18 songs in development for the new album. This indicates significant progress on what will be their next studio release.
The band is following a production approach similar to their previous work. American Songwriter noted that they are recording parts remotely and collaborating through virtual meetings. Elliott described this modern approach as being like “Abbey Road” in a laptop. This highlights how the legendary British rockers have adapted their creative process to contemporary technology.
The Vegas residency Elliott referenced will take place at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. The band intends to preview their new tracks there. The Rock Revival confirmed that their 2026 Las Vegas residency runs from February 3 through February 28. This provides multiple opportunities for fans to hear the new material live before its official release.
This strategic release approach represents a shift from traditional album rollouts. Def Leppard is choosing to build anticipation through live performances and gradual song releases rather than waiting for a complete album package. The band’s willingness to embrace the digital age’s impact on music consumption reflects their evolution as artists who have successfully navigated multiple decades of industry changes.
