Music journalist Mitch Lafon has made some comments that compared Rolling Stones’ longevity to that of Aerosmith.

The journalist took to X to share his thoughts on Aerosmith’s recently announced retirement. He wrote:

“The Rolling Stones started a decade or so before Aerosmith. Yet, Aerosmith retired first. Let that sink in.”

Some people took his comments as a swipe to Steven Tyler. To clarify his earlier words, Lafon shared another post saying it was an ode:

“I’m seeing that a few people are interpreting this post as some kind of swipe. It’s not. It’s an ode to the never-ending endurance of the Rolling Stones. In no way shape or form am I insulting Aerosmith or Steven Tyler or anyone.”

Why Aerosmith Is Retiring

Aerosmith had already pushed back their ‘Peace Out’ farewell tour last September after just three shows because Tyler had a vocal injury. The tour was supposed to pick back up on September 20 in Pittsburgh until February. The band later canceled the tour and announced their retirement.

The band addressed the state of Tyler’s health on an Instagram post, saying Tyler’s voice is an instrument like no other but it wasn’t getting any better either. The rockers thanked their crew and fans for supporting them on their journey.

How Rolling Stones Still Manage To Perform Live

The Rolling Stones have been active since 1962 and haven’t stopped performing live since then. Joyce Smyth has managed The Stones for the past eight years and worked with them for decades. When asked how the band still performs with such energy during an interview, she attributed their longevity to their drive and explained:

“Immense stamina, incredible focus and a genuine passion to want be out there. It isn’t as if they have to do it. They all want to be taking the (live) show to new places, to vary the show, to just do what they do best.”
