Mike Portnoy Shares A Public Statement About Kerry King’s New Band

Mike Portnoy recently took to Instagram to extend his congratulations to the members of Kerry King’s new band and the announcement of their upcoming album, ‘From Hell I Rise.’

Portnoy highlighted the involvement of his fellow Metal Allegiance bandmates Mark Osegueda and Phil Demmel in King’s project, along with Paul Bostaph and Kyle Sanders, writing:

“As everybody in the metal community has been posting today, I’d like to congratulate my Metal Allegiance brothers Mark Osegueda and Phil Demmel on the announcement of their involvement in Kerry King’s new band & upcoming album… As well as to my friends Paul Bostaph & Kyle Sanders (Kerry and Kyle are also Metal Masters/Allegiance alumni, too). This 1st track is a banger, and I can’t wait to hear the rest of the album and see this all-star band throw down live!”

A Stellar Lineup

‘From Hell I Rise,’ set to be released on May 17, will feature a notable lineup including Death Angel’s Mark Osegueda, longtime Slayer drummer Paul Bostaph, former Hellyeah bassist Kyle Sanders, and ex-Machine Head and Vio-lence guitarist Phil Demmel. With Josh Wilbur, known for his work with Lamb of God, contributing to the album’s production, the project will include 13 songs.

In a new discussion with Rolling Stone, King shared his intentions behind the band’s formation, aiming to create a distinct sound from Slayer. The musician noted:

“I knew Paul was going to be with me. My original intent was to have [Slayer guitarist] Gary Holt, but the farther I got away from Slayer, the more I thought people would call this band ‘Slayer Light’ or ‘Baby Slayer.’ They’re going to say that anyway, so I didn’t need to fuel that fire. There was no falling out between me and Gary.”

In a previous conversation with Full Metal Jackie last year, Gary Holt also expressed his anticipation for King’s new project despite not having heard any of it yet.
