Michael Sweet recently announced that Stryper will be working on a new album. He shared his thoughts about the upcoming project in a heartfelt statement posted on Facebook.

The statement revealed Sweet’s mixed emotions as he prepares to record the new album while dealing with personal challenges. These challenges include his recently announced cancer diagnosis.

“Time to work. I’ll be seeing the grandkids today and tomorrow and then I’m off to record a new Stryper album,” Sweet said. “Everything feels bittersweet to be honest. I’m supposed to be excited about a new album. I am, however I’m also thinking about so many things that it’s difficult to focus on the tasks at hand. My mind is racing.”

Sweet expressed confidence about the quality of the upcoming release despite the emotional challenges.

“That being said, this will be our best album to date. Why? Because there are some killer songs on this one! And most importantly, because I believe it,” he continued. “Simple as that. If you believe, you shall receive.”

Sweet concluded his message by wishing fans well. He promised updates on the album’s progress.

“I hope everyone had a beautiful Christmas. I’ll keep you all posted on the album as things progress. Much love and as always, much respect,” he said.

The announcement comes shortly after Sweet revealed his cancer diagnosis. This adds a poignant dimension to the band’s upcoming recording process.

This new album announcement follows a particularly productive period for the Christian metal pioneers. Angelic Warlord reported that Stryper released its long-awaited Christmas album, The Greatest Gift Of All, on November 21 via Frontiers Music Srl. The album features ten songs including five original compositions.

The band has maintained an impressive release schedule in recent years. Spotify for Creators noted that their latest all-original studio album, When We Were Kings, was released in September 2024. This demonstrates the band’s continued creative momentum.

Sweet’s announcement of what he believes will be their “best album to date” comes at a time when the veteran musician is balancing his artistic ambitions with personal health challenges. The timing of this recording project follows both a successful Christmas release and his cancer diagnosis. This underscores the complex emotions he described in his Facebook post.

The upcoming album represents another chapter in Stryper’s enduring legacy as one of Christian metal’s most influential bands. With Sweet’s unwavering belief in the quality of the new material, fans can expect the band to continue pushing creative boundaries. They will maintain their signature sound and message.
