In a new interview with Guitar Player, UFO founder Michael Schenker explained why he couldn’t stand being in the band anymore. He revealed big success was never his goal.

“I left because I did not want to have one direction,” Schenker said. “I didn’t want only that just because everyone else wanted it. I had my own vision, and after ‘Strangers in the Night,’ I split from UFO.”

“There were a few reasons for that, but the main reason is that I knew I didn’t want what they wanted. I would have been a mismatch. We all would have been very unhappy, just like I was with the Scorpions. I would have been very unhappy if I had to do what they were looking for. And they would not have wanted to deal with what I wanted,” he added.

Though the band ended after over 50 years, Michael Schenker suggested a final show with UFO. Mogg responded to his offer in another interview. “Yeah. That’s it,” the singer said about whether UFO is done for good. “No. That really cool tour we did in the UK was it.”

He added, “For us to suddenly reappear again, the fans would say: ‘Oi! I paid to see you on that last tour.’ Some might think that a great thing. Me, I don’t think so.”

Mogg stated that it felt like the right time to stop following their last U.K. tour in 2019. The band had started a farewell tour for their 50th anniversary, which was extended into 2022. However, before the final show, Mogg suffered a heart attack and was unable to perform.
