A Metallica fan has faced serious consequences following a dangerous stunt at Optus Stadium in Perth. According to reporting by Perth Now, the incident resulted in legal charges and significant penalties.

During the band’s two-hour performance on November 1, two men climbed the stadium’s tower. The court proceedings revealed details about the incident and its consequences.

“Beau William Loch Rollings, from the Bunbury suburb of Carey Park, and Rory Hugh Culbert, 23, from Australind, climbed up the tower during the heavy metal band’s two-hour set on November 1,” the report stated. “Perth Magistrates Court was told on Tuesday that the pair had jumped over security fencing about 10.30pm. They stayed up the tower, at a height of 10-50m, for about 20 minutes before climbing down.”

Both men were charged with trespass and pleaded guilty at their first hearing. Magistrate Ruth Dineen addressed the severity of their actions during sentencing.

“Something that seemed funny at the time had big consequences,” Dineen said. Rollings received a $1000 fine and was ordered to pay $308.80 in court costs. He also received a lifetime ban from Optus Stadium.

The incident occurred during one of Metallica’s most significant Australian performances in recent years. The stunt drew considerable attention from both fans and authorities and disrupted what was otherwise a highly anticipated concert event.

The Music reported that the concert drew approximately 60,000 fans to Optus Stadium, making it one of the venue’s largest metal events. The tower climb created chaos during the performance as law enforcement scrambled to safely bring the men down from the structure.

Seesawmag’s concert review noted that despite the disruption caused by the incident, Metallica delivered a powerful performance. The show was highly praised for its energy and production value, reaffirming the band’s status as masters of metal. The performance continued after the two concertgoers were safely removed from the tower.

The two men admitted to consuming alcohol before climbing the tower. They provided no explanation for their actions. The Music reported that the stunt ultimately cost them dearly. They received legal penalties and lifetime bans from the venue, and they also missed the remainder of the concert they had paid to attend.

The incident serves as a cautionary tale about the consequences of reckless behavior at major events. Magistrate Dineen’s sentencing emphasized that actions taken in the moment of excitement can have lasting repercussions. This message resonated throughout the legal proceedings and subsequent media coverage of the case.
