Megadeth’s joke about selling Dave Mustaine wigs for April Fools’ Day sparked fan interest on Instagram.
The band announced they’re selling wigs inspired by the hairstyles of their members: Mustaine, James LoMenzo, Dirk Verbeuren, and new guitarist Teemu Mäntysaari. They wrote in the caption:
“We are now selling ‘Megadeth Wigs!’ Grab yours today and get ready to thrash with us on tour! Just kidding…but would you actually buy one…?”
Fan Reaction To Megadeth’s Joke

Although the band wanted to joke about it, the fans seemed very eager to buy them. One of them said:
“I would instantly buy one.”
Another fan added:
“I need the Dave one so bad.”
One other user had a suggestion for the band:
“You should sell it. People will actually buy it.”
Another person also shared their interest:
“I would definitely buy one; I can’t find no one on the internet that makes them.”
April Fools’ Day In The Music Scene

Many other rock and metal bands posted April Fools’ Day pranks on their social media. Stryper frontman Michael Sweet joked about changing their style after being in the music industry for so long. He shared a group photo from their early days on Instagram and wrote:
“After years of having to live with these unexplainable photos (only to be haunted by the realization that they will never go away) we have decided to shave our heads, move to Tibet and go into hiding as monks for the rest of our days here on earth. True metal bands who sing about satan, leather, studs, spikes, hell, dragons, vampires, Harley’s, mid-evil times, blood, sweat and demonic rituals will be very happy to hear this news.”
King Crimson’s Robert Fripp also pulled off a prank on April Fools’ Day by claiming to have joined OnlyFans. He even posted a video appearing naked with his guitar covering certain parts. However, the link provided led to an error page.
