Matt Sorum Says Sammy Hagar’s Entrepreneurial Skills Are Equal To His ‘Incredible Voice’

Drummer Matt Sorum recently celebrated his fellow musician Sammy Hagar‘s birthday through his Instagram account. In his birthday celebration post, Sorum touched upon Hagar’s professionalism as an entrepreneur.

Apart from being a talented musician who rose to prominence with Montrose, Van Halen, and his solo projects like the Circle, Sammy Hagar is also a successful entrepreneur. As a businessman, Hagar founded his Cabo Wabo Tequila brand and restaurant chain, along with the Sammy’s Beach Bar rum. Besides, he is the owner of ‘Sammy’s Beach Bar & Grill’ in St. Louis and established ‘Sammy’s Beach Bar Cocktail Co.,’ for which he gave a rooftop concert.

Sammy Hagar’s Cabo Wabo Tequila brand ended up becoming one of the best-selling premium Tequilas in the States. In 2007, Hagar sold 80% of Cabo Wabo Tequila for $80 million and gave away the remaining interests of the brand for $11 million in 2010. So, the musician’s business ventures brought him tremendous success and made him a multi-millionaire. To get to this place in the industry, the Red Rocker worked hard and took smart steps, such as promoting his brands with his band, the Circle.

On October 13, Sammy Hagar celebrated his 74th birthday. To celebrate his close friend’s birthday, Matt Sorum took to his Instagram and posted a picture of them having a good time. In the caption of this post, Sorum stated he had been friends with Sammy for over 30 years, and they first met in Cabo around 1991. According to the drummer, Cabo was just a tiny fishing village then, and he and Hagar would go and jam at Cabo Wabo to get it buzzing.

Matt Sorum argued that it wasn’t easy for Sammy and his friends to get Cabo Wabo to where it is today. As Sorum said, the Red Rocker never gave up and worked hard for a long time. The drummer praised Hagar’s persistence and entrepreneurial skills, saying they are equal to the musician’s incredible voice. Sorum then urged his followers to pick up Montrose’s first album to see that Hagar’s voice never ages.

Matt Sorum’s Instagram post read:

“Happy Birthday to my friend of over 30 years, Sammy Hagar. I first met Sam in Cabo around 1991; at that time, it was a small fishing village with a few hotels. Sammy had Cabo Wabo, but the town wasn’t what it is today, and we would go in and jam to get the place buzzing. It didn’t happen overnight, for Cabo Wabo, Sam, and his friends put in the work to build it up.

The old expression ‘build it and they will come’ holds true here. Sammy never gave up, and it paid off big time. His persistence and entrepreneurial skills are equal to his incredible voice. The man barely warms up to sing as he does. Do yourself a favor and pick up Montrose’s first album. He still has the pipes all these years later. A very Happy Birthday, Sammy!”
