The past dispute between Vicky and the band members was over the ownership of several unreleased songs recorded before Chris Cornell’s death in 2017. The dispute continued for years and escalated into a legal battle. However, with a statement released by both sides in April, both Soundgarden and Vicky Cornell expressed their pleasure at reaching an amicable settlement, emphasizing that it would give fans access to the final songs Chris and the band worked on. However, from what we have just learned from Matt Cameron, it doesn’t look like it will be that easy.
Cameron gave an update on the situation in an interview on The Vinyl Guide Interview Podcast. When asked whether final recordings with Chris Cornell will be released anytime soon. He said:
“I don’t think so, unfortunately. We’re still in the middle of a kind of a dispute with the estate and… So I think, it’s everything on hold right now, and I can’t really like go into details, unfortunately. But as of right now, no, it doesn’t look like it’s gonna happen next year. I’m not giving up hope.”
Chris Cornell Trusted Matt Cameron As A Musician

Cameron and Chris’ musical partnership was perhaps stronger than we thought. Former Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron appeared on Rick Beato’s YouTube channel for an interview in August 2022 and stated that Chris Cornell did not criticize his drumming because he trusted his musical instincts. Pointing out that the late Chris Cornell did not comment on his drumming, Cameron continued his remarks as follows:
“No, he said nothing, which was so mind-blowing. I think it was partly mutual respect, we both really loved what each of us brought to the table. But I think he just liked what I was doing. He trusted my instincts as a fellow bandmate, musician, songwriter, and everything. No, I mean no, that never really happened, but then again, conversely, like some of his demos had him playing drums, or it had some programming that I followed to a T because they were f*cking great parts. For me, it is just all about making sure the part fits the song to the best of its ability.”
