Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus shared nostalgic sentiments about former drummer Scott Raynor in a recent interview with The Independent.

Hoppus reflected on the band’s early days and expressed his desire to reconnect with Raynor. The former drummer played an essential role in Blink-182’s initial success and maintained close ties with Hoppus’s family.

“I would love to sit down with Scott and chop it up and remember old times,” Hoppus said. “He was so integral at the beginning of the band. He lived with my family for a while when his parents moved away, and he didn’t want to break up the band. I miss that friendship.”

The statement emerged during a broader interview. Hoppus discussed various aspects of his life, including his battle with cancer and the band’s history.

The relationship between Raynor and Blink-182 followed a complex path before his departure from the band.

Reports from Alternative Nation revealed that Raynor’s exit in 1998 resulted from his struggles with alcohol and internal band tensions. The situation deteriorated when Raynor’s behavior affected band performances. In one incident, he kicked a cymbal kit in anger and injured bandmate Tom DeLonge.

Raynor’s drinking habits began to disrupt the band’s touring schedule. Skatepunkers documented that an emergency call led to Raynor’s temporary departure. The band then presented him with an ultimatum regarding his drinking habits.

The band later channeled their emotions about Raynor’s departure into the song “Man Overboard.” Various sources noted that the song’s lyrics directly addressed Raynor’s alcohol abuse and its impact on the band.

Travis Barker joined as the band’s new drummer after Raynor’s exit. This change marked the beginning of a new era for Blink-182. Hoppus’s recent comments indicate his wish for closure and reconciliation with their former bandmate.
