Marilyn Manson’s former partner, Evan Rachel Wood, reflected on her musical comeback with a cover of Radiohead’s 1997 album ‘OK Computer’ in a recent chat with American Songwriter.

The actress joined forces with Zane Carney under the name Evan + Zane and performed two performances of the album on November 5 and 6, at the Chelsea Table + Stage in New York City. Recalling the first time she went to see Carney play live, Wood said:

“I fell in love with them immediately. I thought they were the best live bands I had ever seen live. It’s always been my dream to do this weird, dark cabaret, Disney show, and Zane was totally into the idea.”

Wood And Carney’s Musical Chemistry

The actress detailed her experience of taking the stage with Carney, explaining:

“This band has given me a lot of confidence in myself, and it’s given me an opportunity to sing so many different styles and artists and to be able to collaborate with a guitar player like Zane, who just completely takes things to a different universe. It’s not like we’re just going up there and covering songs. It really does feel like we’re taking off and doing something really special.”

Carney’s Perspective On Their Collaboration

During the same conversation, Carney also discussed his thoughts on working with Evan. The guitarist shared how inspiring to watch Wood perform, noting:

“Evan is so great at embodying a song. It’s not just ‘Here I am singing.’ She’s in the song, encapsulating all other person, and she gives it to the audience. She’s not like keeping it to herself, so I feel like the next song [solo] I have coming out has unconsciously been inspired by that.”

The Significance Of ‘OK Computer’ In Wood’s Life

Elsewhere in the interview, the actress also reflected on the importance of Radiohead’s ‘OK Computer’ to her. She said:

“I remember the first time I ever heard it. It was a very influential album in my life since I was a teenager, and we both have a deep love for Jonny Greenwood and the amazing guitar that he does as well. It still felt very timely.”

Wood and Zane first performed a cover from ‘OK Computer’ with Wood on vocals and Carney playing the guitar in Tokyo, Japan, on September 24, 2018. This was one of their initial performances following the formation of their duo, Evan + Zane.

Since their formation, the duo have explored various musical genres together. They’ve played Disney tunes, jazz, psychedelic tracks and have themed their performances around concepts like the color blue, rain, and even Halloween. In January 2024, they plan to perform 20 songs selected from their various themed shows over the years, accompanied by a 28-piece orchestra.
