The band shared the news with a brief announcement of the track’s availability.

“SUTURES – Out now,” Machine Head said.

The new single has already drawn responses from fans. One listener praised the song’s title and expressed optimism about the band’s future direction. “The best title I’ve heard in a long time! Cool! I hope this heralds the direction of the next album,” the fan wrote.

Another fan noted changes in the vocal delivery. “The vocals sound different here. Song kick ass man!” they said.

Machine Head released “Sutures” as a surprise drop following their 2025 album UNATØNED. The song represents the band’s first new single since that release.

UNATØNED arrived on April 25, 2025, as Machine Head’s eleventh studio album and their first to feature Reece Scruggs on guitar. The record captured the raw energy of the band’s return to the global festival circuit after an 11-year hiatus, with material written on the road, in hotel rooms, and across continents.

Robb Flynn described the album cycle as unpredictable, marked by both incredible highs and seriously difficult moments. The cycle saw changes among the touring crew, with four drum techs, four monitor engineers, four merch staffers, and three booking agents rotating through positions. The band also went through seven guitar players during the period, three of whom never performed a show with Machine Head, while facing canceled flights, social media attacks, and the loss of close friends and family.

Despite these challenges, the band sold out shows and delivered some of the best performances of their career. Flynn identified himself, Jared MacEachern, and Matt Alston as the three consistent band members throughout the cycle. He also thanked Reece Scruggs, Wacław ‘Vogg’ Kiełtyka, and Ben Eller for their contributions to the album and touring effort.

Machine Head made history by playing seven shows as a 3-piece for the first time in the band’s 30-plus-year existence. The performances included festival dates and three-hour ‘Evening With’ shows, demonstrating the band’s ability to adapt and deliver at the highest level even during a tumultuous period.
