Halestorm frontwoman Lzzy Hale recently shared an amusing story about gifting Judas Priest’s Rob Halford a pair of high heels. The story was reported by Louder Sound.
The story began during a performance with Judas Priest in Auckland, New Zealand. Hale noticed Halford’s admiration for her footwear during this encounter.
“We got to meet and perform with Judas Priest in Auckland, New Zealand. I was wearing these eight-inch spiky high heels, and I was telling Rob: ‘I can’t believe you do eleven leather jacket changes,'” Hale said. “He’s like: ‘Oh, I’m just trying to be like Cher.’ And he looks at my high heels and he’s like: ‘I wish I could wear those.'”
About a month later, Hale decided to turn Halford’s wish into reality with a Christmas surprise.
“So about a month later, around Christmas time, I found some eight-inch spiky high heels that were the exact same ones that I wore, but in a men’s size. I sent them to him for Christmas,” she continued. “He’s got his cane, so I did tell him this may be for just horizontal use only. He ended up posing in them online and writing me a nice note back. Just a little fashion situation there with Rob Halford.”
The exchange highlights the playful camaraderie between the two metal icons. It also demonstrates Halford’s willingness to embrace fashion experimentation.
This heartwarming interaction between Hale and Halford reflects a broader pattern of collaboration and mutual respect within the rock and metal community. Artists frequently support and inspire each other across different bands and generations.
The friendship between Hale and members of Judas Priest extends beyond casual encounters. Hot Press reported that in May 2020, Hale teamed up with Judas Priest guitarist Richie Faulkner, Alice in Chains bassist Mike Inez, and former Machine Head members for a virtual cover of Thin Lizzy’s classic “Bad Reputation.” This collaboration showcased her versatile connections within the rock community during the pandemic.
The virtual performance was part of an ongoing series called “Collab-A-Jam.” Former Machine Head guitarist Phil Demmel organized this initiative. Antimusic noted that this initiative aimed to bring together legendary musicians despite quarantine restrictions. It created unique musical moments that might not have happened under normal circumstances.
The collaboration demonstrated how established metal artists continue to find creative ways to connect and create music together, even when physical distance separates them. These cross-band partnerships have become increasingly common in the metal scene. They foster a sense of community that transcends individual band boundaries.
Such interactions between veteran artists like Halford and newer generation stars like Hale help bridge different eras of metal music. They create opportunities for knowledge sharing and artistic growth that benefit both the musicians and their fans worldwide.
