Lynyrd Skynyrd drummer Artimus Pyle sat down with Fox17 Rock & Review for a new interview to discuss his new album ‘Anthems!’ In the new album, the drummer worked with many names, including the country singer Dolly Parton.

During the interview, the drummer talked about their time in the studio and mentioned her induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Sharing their chat about voting for her, he said:

“We’re in the studio, and I said, ‘Dolly, because I’m inducted I get the vote, so this year you’re on the ballot, so of course I’m voting for you.’ And she goes, her humble self, she goes, ‘Oh, I don’t think I deserve it because I’m not a rock and roller.’ I said, ‘You’ve done rock stuff,’ and I’ve said, ‘Dolly, you deserve everything. I’m gonna vote for you.'”

How Dolly Decided to Include ‘Free Bird’ in Her Album

Parton’s new album ‘Rockstar’ was released on November 17, and the singer has guested many names such as Pat Benetar, Paul McCartney, Kid Rock, Sting, and more. She also did not forget to guest the Lynyrd Skynyrd drummer, and the two collaborated on the hit, ‘Free Bird.’ Pyle shared his memory with Parton about the hit:

“And she goes, ‘Guess I’ll accept, but I’m gonna have to do a rock album.’ So she said, ‘Can I put ‘Free Bird’ on my rock album?’ And I’m like, ‘Uh, yes.'”

Artimus Pyle’s New Album

‘Anthems!’ was recorded to honor the legacy of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Artists involved in the album include Dolly Parton, LOCASH, Warren Haynes, Chris Janson, Sammy Hagar, and more. The album, containing 13 tracks, will be released on February 2, 2024. A track has been released from the album on October 20, the day that coincides with the 46th anniversary of the tragic plane crash that made music history.
