Kevin Cronin recently shared an update with fans on Facebook, signaling that new projects are on the horizon following REO Speedwagon’s decision to stop touring. In his post, Cronin reflected on his transition to civilian life after five decades of touring.

Cronin described his recent experience attending a concert at the Forum in Los Angeles. He was reminded of REO Speedwagon’s storied history at the venue.

He wrote: “Having lived my life in between tours for the past fifty years, there is a bit of a learning curve when it comes to ‘civilian life.’ So I am taking it slow, spending precious time with my family, close friends, and neighbors.”

He continued: “When you come in through the artist entrance at the Forum you walk down a long tunnel. The walls are covered with the artists’ names and dates of every concert to play this venerable venue. REO Speedwagon appears on this ‘wall of fame’ several times, and it felt good to be among this distinguished group.”

A devoted fan expressed their continued support and mentioned seeing the band 25 times in concert. Cronin responded with an exciting hint about his future plans. “I am not done yet … keep an eye out for the KCB on TV this coming NYE!” he said, suggesting new music or performances may be coming soon.

Cronin’s cryptic message comes after a significant chapter closed for the legendary rock band. Consequence reported that REO Speedwagon announced their breakup in September 2024 due to internal conflicts within the band. The band cited “irreconcilable differences” between Cronin and bassist Bruce Hall. The tensions stemmed largely from Hall’s delayed return to the stage following back surgery in 2023, which never materialized into a reunion.

The band’s final chapter concluded on December 21, 2024, at Las Vegas’ Venetian Theatre. Ultimate Classic Rock documented that the closing lineup consisted of Cronin on vocals, lead guitarist Dave Amato and drummer Bryan Hitt (both members since 1989), keyboardist Derek Hilland, and touring bassist Matt Bissonette. The band ended their nearly six-decade career with an emotional finale. They closed the show with “Can’t Fight This Feeling” and “Roll With the Changes,” with the final chorus featuring assistance from V.I.P. attendees, wives, children, managers and crew members.

During his farewell speech, Cronin expressed both sadness and gratitude for the band’s incredible journey. He felt “sadness that this is the final REO Speedwagon concert” while remaining “grateful to have been part of this incredible ride.”

Despite REO Speedwagon’s dissolution, Cronin’s musical career continues to thrive. Consequence revealed that Cronin announced a co-headlining 2025 North American tour with rock band Styx. He will perform with the same musicians from REO Speedwagon’s final lineup. This new venture suggests that Cronin’s cryptic New Year’s Eve announcement may be just the beginning of an exciting new chapter in his career, keeping his legacy alive while exploring fresh creative directions.
