Kevin Cronin recently shared insights about his future plans for his solo venture following REO Speedwagon’s decision to stop touring in 2024. He addressed fans in a heartfelt message posted on Facebook.
The statement reflected on his five-decade career and his decision to prioritize family time over touring commitments.
“Hi Friends, for the past fifty years, my life has revolved around being out on tour, singing and playing REO Speedwagon’s music for the greatest fans in the world … and loving every minute of it!” Cronin said. “But lately, my wife, kids, and those closest to me have all been encouraging me to hit pause, and spend a bit more time enjoying life’s other blessings.”
Cronin also shared details about his recent family celebrations and holiday experiences.
“Lisa and I headed for Brooklyn to celebrate our daughter Holly’s birthday, and got home in time to put up the Christmas decorations with our sons Josh and Shane,” he continued. “This Holiday season has been both exciting and relaxing, fulfilling and fun, and I look forward to seeing what’s around the next bend. I am at peace, in love, and living every moment. My family and I are grateful for your continuing support, and wish you all the best in 2026.”
REO Speedwagon was formed in 1967 in Champaign, Illinois. The band rose to international fame with classic hits like “Take It on the Run” and “Keep on Loving You.” The band has sold over 40 million albums worldwide throughout their career. This established them as arena rock legends.
Cronin, now 74, has served as the band’s lead vocalist since 1972, with only a brief hiatus during the 1980s. His distinctive voice became synonymous with REO Speedwagon’s signature sound. It helped propel the band to multi-platinum success during their peak years.
REO Speedwagon’s touring hiatus represents the conclusion of more than five decades of live performances. During this time, the band became known for their energetic shows and deep connection with fans across multiple generations.
