Keith Richards recently addressed The Rolling Stones’ touring plans following their new album announcement. He shared his thoughts in an interview with Associated Press.
The guitarist’s comments came in response to questions about potential tour dates to support their recently announced album ‘Foreign Tongues.’
When asked about supporting the new record with another world tour, Richards provided insight into the band’s current timeline.
“We can talk next year,” Richards said. “At the moment, we’re just sort of saying, we’ve finished the record… [and we’re] considering what to do after. Pretty soon, but not this year.”
The statement suggests that while The Rolling Stones are not ruling out future touring, fans will need to wait until 2027 for any potential tour announcements.
Richards’ comments come as the band prepares for the release of their highly anticipated new material. Ultimate Classic Rock reported that The Rolling Stones’ 25th studio album, Foreign Tongues, is scheduled for release on July 10, 2026, via Polydor. The album features two released songs: the lead single “In the Stars” and “Rough and Twisted,” which was previously leaked as “Cockroaches.”
The upcoming release marks a significant milestone for the band. It features an impressive roster of guest appearances. Ultimate Classic Rock noted that the album includes collaborations with Paul McCartney, Steve Winwood, Robert Smith of The Cure, and Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Perhaps most notably, the album will feature a “special appearance” by the late Charlie Watts using 2021 session material.
Foreign Tongues represents the band’s continued creative momentum following their 2023 album Hackney Diamonds. Ultimate Classic Rock confirmed that this marks their first studio album since Hackney Diamonds. The previous album supported extensive touring post-release and marked their return after the death of drummer Charlie Watts in 2021.
The band’s recent touring history includes global performances in 2024 following the Hackney Diamonds release. This demonstrates their ability to maintain an active touring schedule despite the significant loss of their longtime drummer. While no 2026 tour dates are currently confirmed, Richards’ comments suggest the possibility remains open for future touring plans. Discussions may potentially resume in 2027.
