Rob Halford recently addressed speculation about his future in metal on Audacy Music. The Judas Priest frontman made clear his commitment to the band and the metal genre.
Halford expressed his unwavering dedication to his craft when asked about potentially stepping away from music. He emphasized that metal is not just a career for him, but something essential to his well-being.
“I can’t see me ever stopping it,” Halford said. “It’s vital to me. I have to do this. I have to do this metal work. It sustains me. It keeps me motivated. And all great things are happening now more than ever before. So, who would want to stop that, you know? It’s just a fantastic place to be.”
Halford pointed to the band’s current momentum and upcoming milestones as reasons for his continued involvement. Judas Priest recently completed the Shield of Pain tour, which celebrated their classic album Painkiller. The band has significant anniversaries on the horizon.
“Priest is still raging and roaring from our last album, ‘Invincible Shield,'” he continued. “Next year it’s the 50th anniversary of ‘Sad Wings of Destiny.’ It’s the 40th anniversary of ‘Turbo.’ So there’s always something lurking in the metal wings for this band to go back into and dig out and bring back to the stage again.”
Judas Priest shows no signs of slowing down. The band’s recent output and touring schedule demonstrate their continued vitality in the metal scene, with multiple projects and celebrations keeping them engaged and energized.
Halford has repeatedly stated that he has zero interest in retiring as long as the band continues to sound good and perform at a high level, according to Metal Injection. This commitment extends beyond mere nostalgia.
Halford’s passion for performing runs deep. A touching story emerged when an eight-year-old fan at a recent show knew all the lyrics, which reinforced his desire to keep going, Metal Injection reported. He expressed his feelings candidly: “I genuinely from the heart do not want it to end.”
Judas Priest’s schedule remains packed with significant events in 2025. The band is scheduled to perform at major events, including the Scorpions’ 60th-anniversary celebration in July, according to Louder Sound. This underscores their active involvement in the metal scene and their status as one of the genre’s most respected acts.
Judas Priest appears poised to continue their reign as one of metal’s most enduring and vital forces for years to come. Multiple anniversaries await celebration, new material is in development, and a frontman remains genuinely passionate about his craft.
