Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age recalled a funny incident with actor Will Ferrell involving Saturday Night Live’s ‘More Cowbell’ skit. Queens of the Stone Age were to perform their song ‘Little Sister’ on Saturday Night Live in 2005. During the performance, Will Ferrell dressed as his character and joined the band on stage. He rang the cowbell until the end of the song. Homme explained to Logan Kelly on Youtube that he was caught off guard by Ferrell’s funny appearance and antics which left him struggling to keep his composure. He said:
“We happened to have a song that demanded more cowbell, and (Will Ferrell) told me he was going to do that. And then in the dress rehearsal, playing ‘Little Sister’ with him coming out, I lost it. I started laughing. I couldn’t contain myself. I messed up the guitar solo. I couldn’t keep it together, partially because Will was so serious.”
Referring to Ferrell’s absurd appearance during their performance, Josh Homme continued:
“You gotta remember, he was in every sketch on that show. So, it was it was exhausting, right? He was in everything. And then he was (with) the musical guest. And he was sweating, part of his beard was falling off. He had sort of bounced his body (to a point) where his shirt had come up and his belly was out. And so, I lost it.”
He then stated that the rehearsal they did beforehand helped him to maintain a straight face on air. He said:
“It was so helpful to have gone through that rehearsal because looking at Will Ferrell sweating, with his belly out and [banging] the cowbell, it’s impossible (not to laugh). But the second time I managed to keep a straight face.”

Producer In The Sketch Says Ferrell Ruined His Life

It turns out that the actor Christopher Walken, who played the producer of the band in the sketch ‘More Cowbell,’ is haunted by Will Ferrel. In the sketch, Walken played the producer, who kept asking for more cowbells while the band was recording in the studio.
In a 2019 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel’s The Tonight Show, Ferrell said that he once saw a play starring Walken and that the actor told him after the show how he had ruined his life. Here’s how Ferrel described what Christopher Walken said to him:
“You know, you’ve ruined my life. People, during the curtain call, bring cowbells and ring them. The other day I went for an Italian food lunch, and the waiter asked if I wanted more cowbell with my pasta bolognese.”
Will Ferrell Jumped On Stage One More Time With The Cowbell

Will Ferrell’s another ‘More Cowbell’ appearance was during his son Magnus’ first live performance in San Diego, California. Seventeen years after jumping onto Queens of the Stone Age’s performance, he was back in the spotlight when his son Magnus and his band performed at a benefit concert for Cancer for College scholarships.
