Josh Homme hit the stage again in London on December 5 after recent surgery to pay tribute to Mark Lanegan.

Homme, Dave Gahan, Chrissie Hynde, and Greg Dulli were among those who honored the late Lanegan. They celebrated what would have been his 60th birthday.

Alison Mosshart, Bobby Gillespie of Primal Scream, Ed Harcourt, the Soulsavers, and Troy Van Leeuwen also joined the tribute at London’s Roundhouse. The show featured 30 songs from Lanegan’s career, including tracks from Screaming Trees, his solo work, and side projects.

After ‘Revelator,’ QOTSA guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen grabbed the mic to welcome Homme, who then performed a set of songs. “As someone who got the pleasure of spending way too much time with Mark Lanegan, let me tell you he would have pretended to hate this,” the frontman told the crowd. “But he would have loved to see you all here tonight.”

He then invited Mosshart back to the stage for a performance of ‘Come To Me.’ After they hugged, Homme said, “This next song, when I’m gone, at my funeral which you’re all invited to (it’s next Thursday) I want this song played.” He then brought Gahan back on stage to perform ‘One Hundred Days,’ ending the first set.

The evening marked Homme’s return to the stage after canceling summer festival dates for ’emergency surgery.’ “QOTSA regret to announce the cancellation and/or postponement of all remaining 2024 shows. Josh has been given no choice but to prioritize his health and to receive essential medical care through the remainder of the year,” the band said in a statement.

QOTSA members added, “Josh and the QOTSA family are so thankful for your support and the time we were able to spend together over the last year. Hope to see you all again in 2025.”

Later in late September, the group announced their first shows since canceling their North American tour. The new tour will start in Boston on June 10 and 11 next year and end in Chicago. There will be no replacements for the canceled shows in Bridgeport, Memphis, and Mexico City.
