Journey’s Jonathan Cain recently revealed new developments about the band’s upcoming tour. He claimed that Neal Schon has extended an offer to former singer Steve Perry to join them on tour, as reported by Ultimate Classic Rock.
Cain discussed the potential reunion during recent comments about their upcoming 100-show tour.
“Neal [Schon] already asked, and he says [Perry’s] thinking about it,” Cain said. “I hope he comes out. It’s never too late.”
The keyboardist emphasized the open invitation to their former frontman.
“We’ve got 100 shows, so he’s welcome at any one of them,” he continued. “He didn’t say no – leave it at that.”
However, recent developments have provided clarity on Perry’s position regarding the potential reunion.
Parade reported that Perry has officially addressed the speculation surrounding his possible return to Journey for their 2026 Final Frontier farewell tour. The former frontman took to social media to clarify his stance on the reunion rumors that had been circulating among fans and media outlets.
On February 19, 2026, Perry directly addressed the rumors in a Facebook post, stating: “While I’m always grateful for the love people still have for Journey, the rumors about me rejoining the band are simply not true, and I want to gently put them to rest.”
Remind Magazine noted that Perry’s statement came after months of speculation about his potential involvement in the band’s farewell tour. The singer expressed his gratitude for the continued fan support while making it clear that he has no plans to return to the stage with his former bandmates.
AXS TV revealed that Perry explained he is currently focused on new creative work and personal projects rather than pursuing a return to Journey. This definitive statement appears to close the door on what many fans had hoped would be a historic reunion during the band’s final tour.
Despite Perry’s clear statement, the fact that Schon extended the invitation and that Perry took time to consider it demonstrates the enduring connection between the former bandmates. It also shows the possibility that had existed, even if briefly, for one final collaboration.
