During his appearance at the Television Critics Association panel for his new docuseries, ‘Thank You, Goodnight,’ Jon Bon Jovi playfully contrasted his songwriting experiences with those of Taylor Swift.

The singer reflected on the beginnings of his music career and how his early life influenced his songwriting, saying:

“That’s been the magic of 40 years of career. At 20, when I got a record deal, I didn’t have a lot else to write about except high school.”

Bon Jovi’s Playful Jab At Swift’s Songwriting

Later, Bon Jovi joked about Swift with the following words:

“And I didn’t break up with people like Taylor [Swift] did.”

Taylor Swift’s Response To Criticism

Previously, in a 2014 chat with Good Morning America, Swift reacted to the media’s focus on her songwriting subjects. The singer criticized the media’s scrutiny of her personal life as a basis for her music, explaining:

“You’re going to have people who are gonna say, ‘Oh, you know, like she just writes songs about her ex-boyfriends,’ and I think, frankly, that’s just a very sexist angle to take.”

She also pointed out the double standards applied to male artists like Ed Sheeran and Bruno Mars, whose songs about relationships are seldom discussed in the same context.

Despite their different songwriting paths, Bon Jovi and Swift have shared the spotlight, performing Bon Jovi’s hit’ Livin’ on a Prayer’ alongside Prince William at a charity event in 2013.
