Johnny Van Zant Is Making Plans To Expose Gary Rossington’s Unreleased Songs
Rickey Medlocke launched his solo track ‘Never Run Out of Road’ and hinted at the possibility of more music from Lynyrd Skynyrd. During a recent interview with Ultimate Classic Rock, the musician disclosed that he and Johnny Van Zant have been in talks about unveiling unreleased Gary Rossington songs, who passed away on March 5 of last year. Medlocke revealed:
“We’re talking about doing a Skynyrd record. Johnny and I have been on the phone the last couple of days, and we have found music that, along with Gary and maybe some other people, we wrote over the past 12, 15 years, maybe even earlier than that. So maybe we’ll invite different people on the record to come in and play and lend their services to us, kind of like an all-star Skynyrd record. We’ll see what happens.”
The Possibility Of A New Album Was Just A Rumor
In September, Van Zant spoke to Goldmine about a possible new Lynyrd Skynyrd album. He stated that the band intended to make an album before the passing away of their late guitarist, but it never happened when Rossington got sick. He also noted that a few songs can be recorded in his honor.
A month after the interview, Damon Johnson, the new guitarist and the replacement of Gary Rossington, revealed that nothing about a new album was discussed in the band. After the host said that he heard something about a new album, the rocker declined the rumors and said:
“Something he may have said that in an interview, I can tell you that there has been not one word of that discussed in the band, in rehearsals or the van, to the venue or the hotels and that kind of stuff. But look, that’s all part of it. New music is fulfilling for the musicians in any band, and the new music, if you have something brand new to talk about, you got another tour coming up.”
Even though nothing about a new album was discussed earlier, we hope to hear new Lynyrd Skynyrd tracks soon.
