Speaking to Classic Rock, John Coghlan of Status Quo shared a tale about when the band inadvertently intercepted China’s secret messages.

Status Quo found themselves in an interesting situation while recording at London’s IBC Studios, which was situated right next to the Chinese Embassy. As Coghlan recalled, here is what happened:

“An overriding memory of mine is that IBC studios was next door to the Chinese Embassy, and at times we received their Morse code signals through our amplifiers. It’s funny now, but we’d have to stop recording, so that was pretty frustrating.”

But the Morse code incident wasn’t the only highlight of their time at IBC Studios. Rick Parfitt, the band’s late guitarist, reminisced about their extensive hours at the studio. As he said in the same interview, their passion for music saw them arrive in the afternoon and depart the next morning, completely losing track of time.

As for more recent news, Francis Rossi, the band’s lead singer and guitarist, has been recounting stories from his career in rock’n’roll. Rossi recently embarked on an acoustic show dubbed Tunes & Chat Tour, delivering a setlist that spans his musical journey.

Fans of Status Quo also have much to look forward to. The band has announced several tour dates for 2024, with stops in the UK and Switzerland, and more dates are soon to be revealed.
