Joe Perry Says There Wasn’t Much Difference Between Nirvana And The Hair Bands

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry shared his opinion about Nirvana during a recent appearance on Ultimate Classic Rock.

Nirvana was one of the most popular bands back in the ’90s, and they are mostly known for their great singles such as ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit,’ ‘Come as You Are,’ and ‘Lithium.’ However, their sound has always been a matter of discussion in the rock and metal scenes.

The hair bands are mostly known as glam metal bands. Usually, their sound is a fusion of glam rock and heavy metal, which leads to the creation of glam metal. Mötley Crüe and Def Leppard are considered to be the pioneers of this genre.

In the conversation, Joe praised Nirvana’s music and mentioned that he likes listening to the band’s songs. Furthermore, he revealed his honest opinion about Nirvana and its music. Joe touched discussed the most popular songs of the band, such as ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit,’ said that these songs sound like rock n’ roll.

However, Joe went on to say that he cannot spot any differences between these songs and ‘what they called the hair bands.’ This statement can either be interpreted as a compliment for grunge and hair metal or criticism of their similar sound.

“I really like Nirvana. Basically, if you didn’t know anything about them and you listen to the music, especially the singles and stuff, it sounds like rock ‘n’ roll. There isn’t much difference between that and what they called the hair bands.
