Joe Elliott Names The Pop Artists Who Are Def Leppard Fans Such As Miley Cyrus And Katy Perry

During his appearance on Rock Talk With Mitch Lafon, Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott has talked about the influence of the band over pop music and mentioned several pop artists who he considered as huge Def Leppard fans, including Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry.
Joe Elliot is known for his claim that Def Leppard has a wide influence over pop music. He often mentions that he comes across pop artists singing along their songs or claiming they are big fans of Def Leppard, such as Pink or Lady Gaga. Elliott attributes the band’s influence to their music being a blending of other types of music styles.
Speaking to Rock Talk With Mitch Lafon, Joe Elliott talked about this connection of their music with pop music. He claimed that their music had more influence over pop music than rock, and said pop writers and country musicians had a never-ending love for their sound. Elliott then mentioned Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Taylor Swift, and Shaina Twain as the ones influenced by Def Leppard. He also said a lot of pop writers are Def Leppard fans, and mentioned the time they were on a radio show along with Pink and Jewel where he saw them singing along and dancing to their songs. He then included Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus to the list, claiming they are also a big fan of their music.
Joe Elliot said during the Q&A that:
“We’ve had a much bigger effect on pop writers than rock writers. It would be fair to say after 1983, there was a lot of Def Leppard sound alikes. But the one thing that has never gone away is the love of this band from pop writers and country people. You know, people like Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Taylor Swift … Shania Twain … Alison Krause, another one, … she’s a big Def Leppard fan, and a lot of the pop writers have been big Leppard fans. I remember doing radio shows where you’re the only rock band on it. And it’s like Pink and Jewel, and these guys wouldn’t get off the stage … I remember I kept turning around and looking at Pink dancing and singing ‘Sugar.’ Katy Perry, same kind of thing. There’s a lot of these pop artists and the writers for these pop bands, they were big fans of what we did, the songwriting that we did … and it has resonated for a long long time. Miley Cyrus is another one, we met her when we did a TV thing about 18 months ago and she was like just booking this for her appearently. So, you know, it is weird.”
Def Leppard celebrated their album ‘Hysteria’s 30th anniversary four years ago with the release of ‘Hysteria (Remastered 2017).’ The album was a blending pop and rock elements and is considered as a perfect hybrid of rock and pop, along with some country elements. So, it is no doubt that Def Leppard’s successful blending of those impressed the pop artists as well.
