In a new Instagram post, Jay Weinberg opened up about the health issues behind his Slipknot departure.

“One year ago, I had a pretty sh*t week lol. I’ll explain… For most of my life, running has been my favorite form of exercise; second to playing drums, of course,” the drummer started his statement. “However, in the spring of 2018, I started noticing a strain in my left hip when I’d go for even a short run after proper stretching. By July or so, I’d find myself in extreme pain after literally 10 minutes of jogging.”

He continued, “Frustrated and in search of a solution, an MRI in October of 2020 indicated that I had suffered a ‘femoroacetabular impingement’ as the result of an abnormal bone growth on the neck of my left femur bashing up against my hip labrum when I’d go running. My doctor — who I’d known had helped many professional athletes with the same condition — recommended an arthroscopic procedure to correct the issue.”

“I agreed, but couldn’t find the necessary four-to-six-month recovery window in my recording and touring schedule. Eventually, when I found such a timeframe in August of last year, I told him to book his next availability for the procedure, and committed to undergoing surgery on November 14th,” the rocker revealed.

Jay added, “Knowing that it was the right choice for my longterm health did not provide much solace as I was essentially couch-ridden for a month and a half — unable to walk, much less drum; the activity that’s always brought me sanity, peace, and fulfillment. To say this was a significant physical, mental, and emotional low point in my life would be an understatement. But my point is this…”

“As many of us take this time to reflect on what we’re thankful for, I’d like to express my deepest gratitude to my family, friends, and many of you who were by my side when I felt completely defeated. You know who you are,” the musician stated.

He concluded his post, “It was with your support and encouragement that I learned to literally put one foot in front of the other again. It was because of you that I saw the ability to choose hopefulness over hopelessness. It was because of you that I envisioned feeling true happiness for the first time in a long time.”

In November 2023, Jay revealed his health struggles after announcing he left Slipknot for ‘creative’ reasons. He posted photos on Instagram showing himself with crutches and in the hospital, explaining his ongoing health plan.
