Jay Jay French Explains The Reason Behind Twisted Sister’s Popularity
In an interview with The Rock N’ Roll and Coffee Show, Twisted Sister guitarist Jay Jay French recently talked about his music career. French revealed the reason behind Twisted Sister’s popularity in the rock scene.
Twisted Sister announced its name to the world with the 1982 album entitled ‘Under The Blade’ and the 1983 album called ‘You Can’t Stop Rock ‘n’ Roll.’ Later on, the band gained mainstream recognition with the third studio album released in 1984 named ‘Stay Hungry.’
The album contains the group’s best-known songs ‘We Are Not Gonna Take It‘ and ‘I Wanna Rock.’ While ‘We Are Not Gonna Take It’ became number 21, ‘I Wanna Rock’ was number 68 in the United States. The two songs’ videos were shown on MTV frequently.
Especially, ‘We Are Not Gonna Take It’ has considerably impacted the world, turning into an anthem on many occasions. Besides being used in television series several times, it also became a song used on political matters. For instance, Dee Snider permitted the people who support Ukraine to use this song to respond to The Russian Government.
In a recent conversation, Jay Jay French revealed more about the popularity of Twisted Sister. He said that Twisted Sister started its music career in the same period as the great names like Judas Priest, AC/DC, Aerosmith, and KISS. French stated that if someone asked a child to sing a song from these bands, he would have sung ‘We Are Not Gonna Take It’ without hesitation.
According to French, what distinguished Twisted Sister from others was that they became the most licensed band globally. As the guitarist mentioned, their songs were everywhere, including TV shows, commercials, and movies. The rocker indicated that they worked hard to introduce themselves to new generations, and they did it by allowing their songs on mainstream media where anybody could hear their discography.
Jay Jay French explained in his words:
“Five particular bands were created in 1973, Judas Priest, AC/DC, Aerosmith, KISS, and Twisted Sister. Judas Priest, an incredible band; KISS, an incredible band; AC/DC, an incredible band; Aerosmith, an incredible band. If you ask a ten-year-old kid to sing any song by those bands, you ask the kid to sing ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It,’ and what do you think the kid’s going to do?
He’s going to sing ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It’ because we have licensed our material more than any other band. We are the most licensed heavy metal band in the world. Our songs are in more TV shows, soundtracks, commercials, and others. We’ve made a conscious afford to do that because I need to make sure succeeding generations know who we are.“
