Late Cream bassist Jack Bruce thought Gary Moore was a more exciting guitar player than his bandmate Eric Clapton.
Apparently, BBM members Bruce, Moore and Ginger Baker once got criticized in a Rolling Stone article, and many people were also comparing the members to one another. In a recently surfaced interview, the bassist recalled the comments the band got:
“And certainly the same thing happened with BBM, ‘cos Gary Moore was just being compared with Eric, with phrases like ‘He’s no Eric Clapton’ – which is fairly obvious, really. He’s himself, and for my money he’s a more exciting player.”
He then went on to compare Moore to Clapton. Despite playing besides Eric Clapton for years, the late bassist thought Moore was a more exciting player than his bandmate:
“I mean, Eric’s a great player, but I think Gary’s got this passion about his playing. I love playing with him because he just turns you on, and Ginger was really playing great in that band, some of the few live gigs we did were really fantastic.”
Clapton Is ‘Tremendously’ Inspired By Bruce

Following the news of the bassist’s passing at the age of 71, countless tributes have poured in for him, including remembrances from his former bandmates like Eric Clapton. Clapton, touching on the fact that Bruce was a huge influence on him, wrote on his Facebook page:
“He was a great musician and composer, and a tremendous inspiration to me.”
Additionally serving as a member of the drummer Beatle’s band, Ringo Starr’s All-Starr Band, he was praised and shared condolences by the band members as well.
